Zagreb – Croatian Minister of the Economy, Mr. Ivan Vrdoljak, in attendance of Minister Anka Mrak-Taritaš, of the Croatian Ministry of Construction and Physical Planning, on 7 July 2014 commissioned the renewed and modernized JANAF’s Žitnjak Terminal. Its putting into operation marks the completion of the Project of the Žitnjak Terminal reconstruction and upgrade.

Works within the Project of the Žitnjak Terminal reconstruction and upgrade comprised the reconstruction of rail tanker transfer facility and existing storage tanks, as well as construction of new road loading facility and 5 new storage tanks with capacity of 20.000 m3 each (100.000m3 in total). The total value of works amounted to more than HRK 372 million. By completing the construction, total capacity of the storage tank farm now reaches 142.000 m3 thus making the Žitnjak Terminal, at this moment, one of the most modern oil products terminals in this part of Europe. The terminal has been envisaged as regional centre for receipt, dispatch and storage of oil products for the needs of the state commodity reserves and commercial clients. The works on construction and upgrade were performed in cooperation with the local companies, by applying the world’s highest environmental and technological standards.

“The energy sector in Croatia is already now one of the most important investors. With the Žitnjak Terminal becoming one of the most modern terminal for oil products in this part of Europe, as well as other significant energy projects, we have been realizing the key energy goals that will ensure to Croatia the stability of energy supply and the cheapest possible energy sources for our citizens and industry“, said Ivan Vrdoljak, Minister of the Economy.

“By reconstructing the existing transfer facility and storage tanks, we have brought the oil facilities and installations to the level of standards that are considered today in both technological and environmental sense to be a good standard of the European Union, which is a highly appreciated standard worldwide. Each investor generally seeks a healthy environment that will provide him an additional value. Therefore, I believe that this major and useful investment will initiate also some new activities at Žitnjak. Competition is a good thing in every business and we are all looking for the best we can obtain for our money. Construction of new modern plants and capacity increase give JANAF good arguments by which it can convince any potential business partner that JANAF is at the level of the best that is presently offered on the market. It is a good policy and right direction for all who want to be among the best or the best in their business”, pointed out Anka Mrak-Taritaš, Minister of Construction and Physical Planning.

“By the Žitnjak Terminal official commissioning, JANAF has completed its major investment cycle worth one billion kunas. This project at the Žitnjak Terminal, as well as other projects from this investment cycle at the Omišalj and Sisak Terminals, are financed by our own financial funds and the projects were realized in cooperation with the local companies. Owing to good business performance and by realization of the investment projects, the JANAF Management Board has positioned the company as economically and financially stable and strategically significant energy and economic company both in Croatia and in the region”, said DSc. Dragan Kovačević, Chairman of the JANAF Management Board.

Owing to completion of this Project, JANAF now has 202.000 m3 in total of storage capacities for oil products, of which 142.000 m3 at the Žitnjak Terminal and 60.000 m3 at the Omišalj Terminal.
