Environmental protection

For us, system safety and environmental protection are everyday activities, inseparable from the transport and storage of crude oil and petroleum products, according to the principle “By caring about the system, we care about the environment”.

The oil pipeline system is a closed industrial facility with no solid, liquid or gaseous emissions, which under normal operating conditions, with professionally founded, planned and implemented protection measures, does not pollute the environment.

During the design and construction of the JANAF oil pipeline and storage system, all activities were undertaken to ensure the safety of the system and of human health, as well as a safe and clean environment at all stages of operation and existence of the system. By choosing the best available techniques and quality materials, and by applying measures to protect soil, water and the sea, and by continuous monitoring of the system during exploitation through its regular and investment maintenance, the highest level of system safety has been achieved.

The route of the oil pipeline passes through areas with various characteristics, across seas, forests, plains, inhabited and uninhabited areas, and water-supply zones, as well as under roads, rivers and railways. In accordance with the characteristics of the environment, the most stringent standards of environmental protection have been applied. Identification and assessment of potential dangers, preparedness and training of JANAF employees in the case of an accident or a sudden event and corrective action for the purpose of continuous improvement of the safety management system are the best guarantees of a safe and sustainable oil pipeline and storage system.

System safety is based on the principle and belief that sudden events can be largely prevented. Our guiding principle has been a “System without Sudden Events”, which has directed our course and enabled us to achieve the highest global standards.

Construction, reconstruction, upgrade and modernisation of the system in general have a clear purpose of improving the oil transportation system and providing crude oil and petroleum product storage services, and they have been part of the business policy and sustainable development strategy, in which ecological awareness and care for the people, nature and environment are always prevalent in the pursuit of interests of the wider community.
